Biography

Dr. Smith received his Honors B.A. from the University of Delaware and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers University. He completed his internship and postdoctoral training at the Medical University of South Carolina's National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (NCVC). After a three-year stay on the faculty of the University of Arkansas Department of Psychology, he returned to the NCVC, where he served as Director of Training for 13 years. His current research activities focus on the impact of traumatic stress on children and families, and the use of technology to disseminate training in evidence-based treatments to mental health professionals. In addition to these activities, Dr. Smith currently serves as Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development within MUSC’s College of Medicine; as Co-Director for the Charleston Consortium Psychology Internship program; and as Associate Director of the Medical University of South Carolina's Office of Gender Equity.
