Message from the Associate Provost for Education and Student Life
Welcome to the Medical University of South Carolina!
The division of Education and Student Life unites six healthcare colleges within one university. As the United States contemplates revolutionary healthcare reform, we are diligently reengineering medical education support to meet increasing healthcare demands and changes in the healthcare delivery system. Whether you are a prospective or current student, faculty or staff member, parent, peer institution or just have an interest in healthcare education, we invite you to learn more about us.
The mission of Education and Student Life focuses on the student and his or her academic success and the process of attaining leadership skills to excel in the healthcare industry. We view academic success as a multifaceted outcome of the MUSC experience which manifests itself in multiple ways: a mastery of knowledge and expertise; an interprofessional approach to the delivery of patient-centered, evidence-based care; a respect for diversity of ideas and thoughts; a continuous search for and analysis of information; and, a self awareness as a leader, role model, and responsible member of society.
Academic success is a process which requires an array of skills from which the student draws: effective learning approaches and strategies, time and stress management, concentration, communication, motivation, self-awareness, and numerous others. Students bring many skills with them when they arrive at MUSC; some skills will need to be expanded, others will need to be developed in order to achieve academic success. Education and Student Life serves as the main artery for the delivery of services related to the development and refinement of these skills.
We assess our services through an educational lens, partnering with students to ensure we are meeting their needs while infusing scholarship into the process. We prize an evidence-based and best-practices approach to create a positive environment where tomorrow’s leaders can learn together and proactively prepare for a fulfilling career in healthcare.
Please peruse our website and we welcome your comments and suggestions.
All of us have a vested interest in the future of our healthcare leaders and their achievement of academic success!
