Disability Definition

[To] decide whether an individual has a disability under the ADA, a three-step inquiry is called for: first, we must decide whether the individual suffers from a "physical or mental" impairment; second, we must determine whether the life activity on which the individual relies amounts to a 'major' life activity; and third, we must ask whether the specific impairment 'substantially limits' that major life activity. (emphasis added)

In order to be entitled to protection under the statutes (section 504 and the ADA) as an individual with a disability, the student must be able to answer the above three questions in the affirmative.
