Adventure Out: Turning Over a New Leaf

Adventure Out: Turning Over a New Leaf

Adventure Out is a year-long outdoor fitness campaign to encourage residents to visit city parks for exercise. Exercising outdoors or “green exercise” has many additional benefits to indoor fitness activities, including stress management, improved self-esteem and mood, increased frequency of exercise, and improved sense of well-being.

The Adventure Out program features 12 classes in May (green exercise month) and 4 classes per month throughout the year, including Zumba, urban dance, yoga, circuit, historic selfie scavenger hunt and more to help you turn over a new leaf and discover the benefits of green exercise.

·         Free fitness classes with the purchase of an Adventure Out t-shirt or tank ($10/$15) for the entire year! T-shirts purchased from previous years are valid. Classes are designed for all ages and fitness levels

·         Offered in Charleston City Parks (Hampton Park, Maritime Center, Brittlebank, Marion Square and Cannon Park)

·         Kids under 12 are welcome to participate in all classes at their own risk, with an adult who has purchased an Adventure Out shirt. Kids 12 and over should purchase a shirt to attend.

How: Purchase t-shirts at multiple locations and at classes:

  • MUSC Wellness Center Membership Desk - 45 Courtenay Avenue
  • MUSC Office of Health Promotion - 17 Ehrhardt Street #5 (call for times 792-9536)

Why: Because research shows outdoor or ‘green exercise’ delivers powerful health benefits and the City of Charleston Recreation Department, Coca-Cola Bottling Company Consolidated, MUSC Wellness Center and MUSC Office of Health Promotion want to make it easier for you to use the outdoors to be healthier.
