South Carolina Alpha Chapter

Welcome to the South Carolina Alpha Chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society at the Medical University of South Carolina.

AOA's mission is to be a voice for advocating the highest ethical standards in medicine, for exemplifying professionalism, for recognizing the importance of optimal patient care, and for emphasizing the need for continuing scholarship and academic achievements.

  • Congratulations to our newly elected 2010-11 Alpha Chapter officers:  President Chris Ayers, Vice-President Robert Glass, and Secretary Ritter SansoniRobert Glass also won the 2010 H. Biemann Othersen, Jr. Award

  • Participate in our Spring Waring Historical Library Service Project!  Details here
  • Congratulations to Dr. William Hueston and Dr. Patricia McBurney (new faculty members); Dr. J. Michael Allen and Dr. Paul Eberts (new housestaff members); and Sydney Cummings (2010 Hiram Curry Award)!  The AOA Volunteer Physician Award was posthumously given in memory of Dr. James G. Ward.
  • The First Annual AOA-AMA Career Night, which took place on April 8, was well-attended and much-appreciated by students in the College of Medicine.  This project was supported with funding from national AOA.  Thanks to Secretary Annie Leylek for organizing the event! 
  • Thanks to Dr. and Mrs. Biemann Othersen for graciously hosting our May chapter meeting!
