2009-2010 President: John Korman Welcome to the website of the South Carolina Alpha Chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society! In the 56th year of this Chapter and the 184th year of the Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine, our commitment to excellence in academics, professionalism, and patient care remains unchanged. By sponsoring lectures, hosting workshops, and coordinating service projects and fundraisers, we aim to enrich our colleagues and give back to our institution and community. Members of AOA are invited to attend monthly meetings held throughout the academic year. These gatherings take place at the homes of University faculty and are enjoyed by all who attend. During this time of fellowship, members share their experiences and ideas, inspiring one another to pursue the highest ethical ideals and encouraging even greater professional achievement. Although our Chapter has a reputation as one of the most active in the nation, this year's AOA Executive Board would like to achieve even higher levels of participation in AOA programming among our student, housestaff, and faculty members. We plan to add a few more events to the AOA calendar, in addition to our many time-honored activities. Finally, we intend to increase the number of service projects both on our University campus and in the greater Charleston community. Thank you for visiting our Chapter website. If you would like to find out more about our Chapter, its activities, or membership, please feel free to contact me at your convenience. Sincerely, John B. B. Korman "Within the bounds of this campus these influences will lead successive generations of youth from matriculation in the college to graduation in the special school, the complex, varied influences of Art, of Science, and of Charity; of Art, the highest development of which can only come with that sustaining love for ideals which, 'burns bright or dim as each are mirrors of the fire for which all thirst;' of Science, the cold logic of which keeps the mind independent and free from the toils of self-deception and half-knowledge; of Charity, in which we of the medical profession, to walk worthily, must live and move and have our being."
