How do I edit my Messaging settings in Moodle?
Your Messaging settings in Moodle control what triggers email and pop-up notifications to you. By default, most notifications are turned off. Modifying your settings is easy:
- Go to your Profile in Moodle. Click your name in the upper-right hand corner of the page, then select "My profile".
- In the Settings Block of your Profile, select "Messaging".
- Check which notifications you would like to receive and how you would like to receive them.
Popup notifications occur within Moodle. Email notifications are sent to your MUSC email. "Logged in" notifications happen while you are in Moodle, while "offline" notifications happen when you are not in Moodle.
Some students may opt into notifications for a change in their course grades. Be careful managing expectations when using these grade notifications at the beginning of a semester! Course grades are calculated out of total points earned in a course (meaning students start with zero points earned at the beginning of the semester and points are accumulated as work is completed), so initial course grades will be low and grade change notifications may indicate a failing overall course grade even if students did well on their first graded work.
