2012 Eminent Scholar Recipient - Dr. Barbara Gilchrest
Dr. Barbara Gilchrest is Chair-Emeritus of the Department of Dermatology at Boston University School of Medicine, is cited in 100 Best Doctors in America, is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academics of Science, and is a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. Her campus visit included a lecture presentation, small group meetings with women faculty, and individual meetings with faculty.
Dr. Lisa Saladin, Dean of the College of Health Professions led a Roundtable discussion on Leadership Skills/Strategies. Some of the suggestions/recommendations from that Roundtable included understanding your leadership style, performing a self-assessment of your leadership style/profile and taking advantage of opportunities to attend leadership conferences or programs. Dr. Saladin mentioned several online assessment tools that are available. One of the recommended sites includes a free assessment of your leadership style that will provide a brief summary of your profile with references to chapters in their book. That link is:

John R. Raymond Fellowship presented to Dr. Elizabeth Crabtree
Annually, select a woman faculty member at MUSC (of any rank) to receive this monetary fellowship award to be used towards building a collaboration with a renowned expert (male or female) in her field; provide the Mentor Award to the renowned expert identified by the selected woman faculty member; and hold a reception to honor the fellowship recipient, as well as to provide an opportunity for the recipient and other MUSC women faculty to network with one another. Approximately 50 guests attended the reception.

Create a setting where women faculty can receive information, but with more depth and an individualized manner, as well as provide an opportunity to network with a senior faculty member or expert and other women faculty with a common interest (1-1.5 hour small-group sessions focused on a specified topic)
Workshop and reception: “Women and Power” facilitator, Jennet Alterman from The Center for Women
Workshops provide training on specific topics to women faculty through an annual premiere workshop with a national expert, as well as through semi-annual half-day workshops with local speakers and panels. Approximately 50 people attended.
WSI co-sponsored a reception for attendees of the Women’s Health Research Day in conjunction with the Women’s Research Center. Approximately 40 attended the reception.
