December 17, 2012 Advancement of Women Faculty Award

November 2, 2012 MUSC Research Day
WSI hosted a luncheon with the 2012 Research Day keynote speaker, Dr. Mary Kennedy from CalTech. Twenty faculty attended.

October 25, 2012 - Eminent Scholar Recipient 
Dr. Pamela J. Bjorkman, Ph.D. - Max Delbruck Professor of Biology, Howard Hughes Investigator from California Institute of Technology presented her keynote "Overcoming HIV Pathways for Escape using Rationally-Designed Anti-HIV Antibodies" during the MCBP Seminar Series and received the 2012 Eminent Scholar Award. August 26-October 6, 2012
The MUSC Waring Historical Library and Humanities Committee hosted the National Library of Medicine/National Institutes of Health (NLM/NIH) traveling exhibit, “Literature of Prescription: Charlotte Perkins Gilman and ‘The Yellow Wall-Paper’” from August 26 to October 6, 2012 in the MUSC Colbert Education Center and Library. WSI sponsored the closing reception on October 4th. For event details click here

June 28, 2012 John R. Raymond Mentoring Fellowship reception - Dr. John Raymond and the MUSC Women Scholars Initiative held a reception honoring the recipients of the 2012-2013 JRR Mentoring Fellowship.  The recipients are Dr. Kelly Harris, Research Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology at MUSC, Dr. Megan Baker-Ruppel, Associate Professor of Surgery and Medical Director of Comprehensive Breast Care Hollings Cancer Center MUSC, and Dr. Kristyn Zajac, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science, MUSC. Funding for this program was established by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Mark Sothmann, PhD, with expanded funding from College of Medicine Dean Etta D. April 2 & 30, 2012 Negotiating Skills Roundtable  Dr. Shakaib Rehman - WSI sponsored a Roundtable Discussion on April 2nd and 30th covering the topic of Negotiating Skills by Dr. Shakaib Rehman. Dr. Rehman holds certificates from the Network Executive Healthcare Leadership Institute (NEHCLI) and the Leadership Enhancement and Development (LEAD) of the American College of Physicians. Discussion was focused on what to do and what not to do when negotiating salary, job contracts, promotion, etc. to advance your career. Both sessions were informative and helpful to all who attended.

March 26-28, 2012 Gail Evans Premiere Workshop - Sponsored by the MUSC College of Medicine and WSI.  Ms. Evans is a best-selling author, an inspiring and engaging speaker, and a former CNN executive vice president.  The keynote address was titled Race, Gender & Ethnicity in the Workplace, and was open to all MUSC faculty, staff, students, and trainees.  Other events included a seminar for postdoc/grad students and residents, How to Make the Women's Team Work for Every Woman and Every Business.  A workshop, Natural Networking, for women faculty only, an interactive workshop for women faculty, Play Like a Man, Win Like a Woman and She Wins, You Win.  The WSI Steering Committee members enjoyed a luncheon/workshop, Conflict Resolution and Mending Bridges. The final seminar was for members from all WSI committees/workgroups, New Approaches to Mentoring. The Catalyst article is posted here in the April 13, 2012 edition.  To watch the video please click here.
