| College-wide Interdesciplinary Courses The faculty of the College of Health Professions will be developing a series of interdisciplinary courses to be offered through the Department of Health Professions. Some programs in the College may include one or more of these courses as required in the curriculum. Students in programs not requiring the courses may take them as elective credit with the approval of their Program Director. Contact the CHP Dean’s Office at 792-3326 for additional information. Interdisciplinary Course Descriptions HP-610. Research Methods for Health Professionals. This course will introduce the Health Professions student to the research process as informed consumers and potential future participants in research. Topics covered include the characteristics of a research study, methods of control in experimental research, internal and external validity, experimental research designs, evaluation of research, statistics and test construction. Also addressed are scientific writing, strategies for conducting literature searches, research ethics and elements of a research proposal. 3.s.h HP-790. Independent Study. This independent study provides an opportunity for graduate and postdoctoral students to develop an individualized learning experience in consultation with a faculty mentor. The study is designed to supplement required course work within established curricula with learning that extends knowledge in a content area or identifies material not covered elsewhere in the curriculum.
