Confidentiality
In addition to following the regulations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the CAPS staff carefully adheres to the ethical standards of the American Psycological Association and the International Association of Counseling Services. Information regarding a student will not be released to persons outside of CAPS without the student's written consent, unless legally mandated (e.g., a court order) or there is a clear indication of imminent physical danger to self or others. No notation of a student's use of CAPS is maintained outside the CAPS office or in the student's academic file.
