The CARES Clinic is a non-profit organization providing free medical care to uninsured patients aged 18 and older in the local Charleston area since 2005 (those insured under Medicare or Medicaid do not qualify). It is operated and managed by professional students of MUSC for the opportunity to learn about medicine and the inter-workings of a free clinic. At CARES, medical, pharmacy, and PA students follow licensed physicians who are volunteering their time to care for our patients. We welcome you to join us at the CARES clinic!

In addition, our CARES Clinic Spanish Night was awarded the 2015-2016 MUSC Gives Back College of Medicine Community Volunteer Award for Student Organizations!
How to schedule an appointment:
The CARES clinic is now on an appointment system. Call 843-876-7097 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays between 11AM and 2PM to schedule a same day appointment.
Because we are student-run, we are limited to up to 6 patients depending on the number of volunteers that night.
We also make appointments appointments for spanish speaking, psychiatry, diabetes, and women's services after you have been seen first as a general patient. Speak to the office manager after your visit to make an appointment.
The clinic is located at 1145 Six Mile Road, Mt. Pleasant (across from Laing Middle School).
****The CARES Clinic will be CLOSED on the following holidays (we follow the MUSC holiday cancellation schedule):
MLK Jr Day
Independence Day (July 4)
as well as several days between Christmas and New Years (which will vary year to year).
In the event of a SUDDEN closure of the clinic due to unexpected circumstances (for example, situations of inadequate staffing), we will decide by 4PM the day of cancellation and then post a sign on the door to the clinic to inform patients that the clinic will be closed. This will hopefully prevent unnecessary waiting in such situations.
