Anthony Alberg, Ph.D., the Blatt Ness Endowed Chair in Oncology and associate director of Population Sciences, Department of Public Health Sciences, has been named interim director of Hollings Cancer Center. He replaces former director Andrew Kraft, M.D. and will assume his role Aug. 15.
Jeffrey J. Borckardt
Jeff Borckardt, Ph.D., associate professor, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, has accepted the position of assistant provost of Interprofessional Initiatives. Borckardt is the director of the Division of BioBehavioral Medicine, Institute of Psychiatry. He completed an internship and post-doctoral training at MUSC in 2004. He continues to conduct active research projects in the Brain Stimulation Laboratory in conjunction with the Department of Anesthesiology.
Kathleen Brady, M.D., Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and associate provost for Clinical and Translational Science, has been named interim associate provost for research. She also will serve as the MUSC Chief Scientific Officer and Institutional Official.
Anton Gunn has been named Executive Director of Community Health Innovation and Chief Diversity
Officer for MUSC. Gunn has worked previously as a senior official at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and was elected to the S.C. House of Representatives. He will begin his role at MUSC in January 2015.
50 percent discount - 20th Annual Diabetes Symposium
The 20th Annual Diabetes Fall Symposium is a two-day symposium designed to update primary health care professionals on current management and treatment guidelines for people with diabetes.
The program includes workshops with topics such as pharmacology, hospital guidelines for diabetes, and diet and nutrition, and is specifically designed for primary care physicians, endocrinologists, dieticians, pharmacists, PharmDs, RPhs and other professionals. The event will be held on Sept. 11 and 12 at the North Charleston Convention Center.
Note that MUHA and MUSC Physicians and staff receive a 50 percent discount off the registration fee when registering for both days of the program.
