Lipid rafts are special microdomains on cell membrane, which are enriched with glycosphingolipids and protein receptors. Lipid rafts play important roles in bacteria internalization, immune signaling transduction, and apoptotic response to various stimuli. Our research is focused on studying the role of lipid rafts in peridontal bacterial infection and oral cancer progression. Furthermore, we are seeking new therapies to treat periodontitis and oral cancer by sphingolipids.
Being the director of Oral Cancer Research Facility, I am also interested in collaborative science with investigators to study aspects in oral cancer carcinogenesis and progression.
