Center For Health Disparities Research

Strategic Goals and Objectives

Strategic Goals and Objectives

The strategic goals and objectives of the Center for Health Disparities Research are built around three major priority areas: 1) health disparities; 2) rural health; and 3) disease prevention.

Goal 1 (Research): Develop and test interventions to prevent disease and improve health outcomes for diverse populations

Objective 1.1: Conduct innovative research that targets primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention of disease in diverse populations.

Objective 1.2: Develop and test interventions at the patient, provider, and health systems levels to reduce or eliminate racial/ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic differences in quality of care and health outcomes.

Objective 1.3: Develop, test, and disseminate novel interventions to improve health care delivery and health outcomes for rural dwelling residents.

Goal 2 (Infrastructure): Develop research infrastructure to support health disparities and translational research

Objective 2.1: Develop a data warehouse to store large publicly available national, regional, and local datasets in order to facilitate the conduct of health disparities research.
Objective 2.2: Develop a network of community-based clinical sites for clinical translational research and testing of innovative health systems interventions.

Objective 2.3: Develop a broader base of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods expertise to provide guidance to investigators on campus who are interested in conducting research on health disparities.

Goal 3 (Training): Recruit, train, and mentor the next generation of health disparities researchers

Objective 3.1: Recruit and retain new investigators to complement existing expertise and support the mission of the Center.
Objective 3.2: Provide training and career development opportunities for new investigators, fellows and students.
Objective 3.3: Provide pilot funding and resources to assist new investigators in obtaining independent funding.

Goal 4 (Dissemination): Translate and disseminate research findings to patients, health providers, and other stake holders

Objective 4.1: Increase local, regional, and national visibility through local seminar series, scientific publications, and the Center web site.
Objective 4.2: Foster and participate in research collaborations, presentations, and educational activities at the national level, including research collaborations with other health disparities research centers nationwide.
Objective 4.3: Partner with local, regional, and national organizations and Centers to translate and disseminate research products.
