Complete Biographical Sketch

Ron Acierno, Ph.D.: Dr. Acierno is the Director of the PTSD Clinical Team at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, and a Full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He is currently PI on a VA Merit Grant to study the effectiveness of Prolonged Exposure delivered via Home-based Telemedicine, a Department of Defense grant to study a preventive intervention for PTSD for active duty service personnel and veterans. He is also site PI on a VA MERIT to study stress response in PTSD vs. non PTSD patients, and a DoD grant to compare sertraline with and without Prolonged exposure for PTSD. Finally, he is PI on 2 State of South Carolina grants from the Department of Public Safety, and Co-I on two additional grants, two of which are treatment outcome projects including a VA HSR&D funded project on Telemedicine. His research interests involve PTSD, Elder Mistreatment, and Telemedicine delivery of evidence based psychotherapies.
