Complete Biographical Sketch

Valerie Durkalski, Ph.D., M.P.H., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biostatistics, Bioinformatics and Epidemiology (DB2E) at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and the Associate Director of The Data Coordination Unit, a clinical data management center in DB2E.  She received her M.P.H. from Emory University (1996) and her Ph.D. in Biostatistics from MUSC (2001). As Associate Director of a data management center, she collaborates on several large multicenter clinical trials and works closely with the team in the Center for Health Disparities on several of their ongoing studies.  In addition, she currently serves as co-PI of the Statistical and Data Management Center for the NINDS sponsored Neurological Emergencies Treatment Trial Network (NETT). She also is PI of the Data Coordinating Center for an NIMH sponsored multicenter study, ‘Optimization of a Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for the Treatment of Depression’ (PI: Mark George, MUSC), and PI of the Statistical and Data Management Center of a recently funded NIDDK grant looking at treatment of sphincter of Oddi dysfunction.  Dr. Durkalski is an active member in various NIH review panels and as well as Data and Safety Monitoring Committees. She lectures frequently on topics related to clinical trials and is a graduate student instructor for the Design and Conduct of Clinical Trials.
