Andrea Weatherby White, PhD, Leadership Fund
**Message to MHA Alumni from Dr. Abby S. Kazley, MHA Division Director**
As many of you know, Dr. Andy White retired a year ago from the college. I find it difficult to put into words what she meant to the Master of Health Administration (MHA) Program at MUSC. As former program director and an award-winning teacher for 25 years, Dr. White had a tremendous influence in shaping a curriculum that has evolved into one of the most successful programs on campus. Equally important, she played a huge role in shaping the lives and careers of those of us who were fortunate enough to count her as a friend, colleague, teacher and mentor.
In recognition of Dr. White’s passion for teaching and her leadership of the MHA program, I am pleased to share with you that we have established a scholarship fund in her honor. I would like to ask you to support the Andrea Weatherby White, PhD, Leadership Fund, which will provide an annual scholarship for students enrolled in the MHA program. The need for this scholarship fund is great. Of the 156 students currently enrolled in the MHA program, approximately 90 percent rely upon financial support to pay for their educations. Yet, we currently have only one scholarship designated for their benefit. As a result, many take out sizable student loans and start their careers thousands of dollars in debt – not an ideal beginning, I am sure you would agree. We plan to present the first scholarship award at the MUSC Healthcare Leadership Conference on November 1, 2013. If we receive your gift or pledge by October 25, we will include your name as a donor in the program. If you wish, you can make your gift and share your stories by visiting our web site at www.musc.edu/CHPgiving.
Please join me in making a gift to the Andrea Weatherby White, PhD, Leadership Fund. In doing so, you can help fulfill a vital health care need while empowering our students to achieve their dreams. I cannot think of a more fitting tribute for a woman who dedicated so much of her life to educating and training MHA students. On behalf of our students and this grateful institution, many thanks for your generous support.
