Dr. James Krause received the 2008 Patricia McCollom Foundation for Life Care Planning Research Award. This award is given to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to research in the area of Life Care Planning. To receive this award, the individual must have made a significant contribution not only to the body of literature in Life Care Planning but to the everyday practices of Life Care Planners and either directly or indirectly to the lives and well being of the disabled. The research must have met the highest standards of design, methodology and analysis and provided meaningful data that can be applied directly to the Life Care Planning and case management practices.
Dr. Paul JacquesDr. Paul Jacques' abstract titled “Physician Assistant Perspectives of Pediatric Emergency Medicine: Focus Group Conclusions” has been accepted for poster presentation at the Clinical and Scientific Affairs Council's 17th Annual Clinical and Professional Poster Session in conjunction with AAPA’s 36th Annual PA Conference, in San Antonio, Texas.
CHP  students were the recipients of awards at last night’s MUSC Student Service and Leadership Banquet.  Aaron Embry(PT 2007)  was inducted into the inaugural class of the MUSC Student Leadership Society.  Lindsay Hunter received the MUSC Community Volunteer Award for Individuals and the PT Class of 2008 received the MUSC Community Volunteer Award for Student Organizations. Congratulations to all for their leadership in providing service to the university and community.
Dr. Karen WagerCHP is pleased to have another distinguished faculty member recognized by the university for accomplishments in teaching. Dr. Karen Wager has been selected the recipient for this year’s MUSC Teaching Excellence Award in the category of Educator/Lecturer. CHP faculty have a long history of racking up MUSC Teaching Excellence awards and we are proud to have Dr. Wager join the ranks.
Dr. Becki Trickey

Dr. Becki Trickey was featured in the MUSC Catalyst  in a series dedicated to National Women’s History Month (March) and this year’s theme, “Women's Art and Vision.”  Click here to see the article in the Catalyst Online.

The College of Health Professions is pleased to announce a noteworthy award received by Dr. James  Krause, first author and Dr. Sandy Brotherton, Dr. Dave Morrisette, Dr. Susan Newman and Dr. Tasos Karakostas, co-authors on a paper that was awarded the National Association of Rehabilitation Research and Training Centers (NARRTC) first annual "Best Paper Award".  They were in competition with all other NIDRR funded research that was published last year in a peer-reviewed journal (30 manuscripts were evaluated for the award). The title of the paper was “Does pain interference mediate the relationship of independence in ambulation with depressive symptoms after spinal cord injury?” and it was published in the journal “Rehabilitation Psychology” in 2007. Congratulations to all and special thanks to Dr. James Krause for his support and mentorship of faculty.

Dr. Lisa SaladinDr. Lisa Saladin was selected as the 2008 recipient of the Dorothy E. Baethke-Eleanor J. Carlin Award for the Excellence in Academic Teaching by the American Physical Therapy Association. This award was established in 1981 to recognize excellence in academic teaching in physical therapy.  The purpose of the award is to acknowledge an individual who has made significant contributions to physical therapy education through excellence in academic teaching and who demonstrate excellence as a role model for academic teaching for students, faculty and clinicians.  Dr. Saladin is Interim Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and Associate Professor of Physical Therapy at the College of Health Professions.

Dr. Charles Ellis

Dr. Charles Ellis, Assistant Professor of Communication and Sciences Disorders at CHP has been selected as one of the University of Florida's College of Public Health and Health Professions Outstanding Young Alumnus for 2008.  Although Charles is too humble to admit it, this a phenomenal accomplishment from a very prestigious university.  Dr. Ellis was also a recent recipient of the MUSC Foundation Developing Teacher award.  We are very proud to have Dr. Ellis on our faculty.  

Doug Leslie (CHEPS) and Charles Ellis (CSD) are the recipients of recent awards.  Both of Doug’s awards are funded by the Department of Veteran Affairs.  One is for his study, “Mechanisms of Action and Outcome in Peer Support Groups.”  The other is for his protocol, “A Pilot Study of Clinical and Demographic Factors Among Women  Veterans of OEF/OIF. “  Charles received an award through the MUSC Center for Health Disparities Research for his investigation entitled, “ Racial/Ethnic Differences in Treatment Seeking Behaviors for Stroke-Related Care.”
