 | In celebration of Black History Month, the Student Health Professionals United in Recognizing Diversity (SHPURD) held a Soul Food Tasting on Wednesday, February 20th at noon in the College of Health Professions Building A atrium. There was such a good response from students that the group held another tasting during its Tribute to African American Art and Music on Wednesday, February 27th. Items served at the two Soul Food Tastings included maccaroni, fried chicken, potato salad, collard greens, red rice & beans, cornbread dressing, sweet potato pie, peach cobbler, and cornbread. Music from various African American artists was played while a slide presentation was displayed that included African American writers, musicians, and artists such as Maya Angelou, Dizzy Gillespie, and Augusta Savage. In other efforts to celebrate Black History Month, SHPURD placed informative table tents in the atrium of CHP Building A during the month of February. The table tents contained information about prominent African Americans. To learn more about SHPURD check out their web site at http://www.musc.edu/chp/chp_shpurd.
