The Division of Anesthesia for Nurses at the Medical University of South Carolina offers a Masters in Nurse Anesthesia (MNA) degree upon completion. The program is 28 months with 12 months of didactic curriculum and 16 months of clinical practicum. During the clinical practicum portion of the program, students are immersed in the clinical area. Clinical sites throughout the South Carolina and Georgia offer opportunities for diverse experiences in the management of anesthetics for both elective and emergency surgical procedures. Students are required to administer anesthesia to a minimum of 650 patients utilizing a variety of anesthetic techniques including general anesthesia, regional anesthesia and monitored anesthesia care. Students received both formative (daily) and summative evaluations to evaluate their ability to: integrate didactic knowledge to clinical practice, demonstrate critical thinking skills, and apply appropriate interventions in patient management.
