The Cardiovascular Perfusion curriculum is structured for two years, 5 semesters (15 weeks each) following the general principles of cognitive domain of learning and developing psychomotor skills.
Students are introduced to the clinical arena, professional behavior and ethics during the first two semesters, along with course work in physiology, pharmacology and pathology. As the course work proceeds students increase their hands-on activities through simulation and wet labs, moving to the animal research labs for initial perfusion training and catastrophe simulation. The course work moves into clinical practice and implementation of research projects during the final two semesters.
Participation is required in seminar courses, journal club, morbidity and mortality conferences, and cath conferences continuously throughout the two years.
