We are pleased to welcome as our keynote speaker for 2013 Bruce E. Searles, CCP, of the State University of New York's Upstate Medical University.
Bruce has been associate professor and chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Perfusion at SUNY for fifteen years. He has twenty years of perfusion experience and currently practices at four New York hospitals, serving as Clinical ECMO Consultant for a fifth. He has authored or coauthored over thirty publications and numerous professional news articles, and is also a past recipient of AmSECT's Perfusionist of the Year Award.
Bruce has served in the past as chairman of the Perfusion Program Directors Committee, a group that represents all the perfusion schools in the USA, as well as chairman of AmSECT's Internet Committee. He currently serves as President of the Board of Directors of the New York State Society of Perfusionists and also chairs the AmSECT Simulation Committee. He serves as a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Extracorporeal Technology and Perfusion.
Bruce is frequently invited to speak on the subjects of safety in clinical practice, perfusion education, and, more recently, on the application of High Fidelity Simulation for the education of perfusion students and the continuing education of clinical perfusionists. He has presented at perfusion conferences in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Japan, China, and Singapore. Bruce was awarded an MS in physiology by SUNY Upstate Medical in 2012, and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in College Science Teaching at Syracuse University.
