About the John and Sally Osborne Educational Scholarship

The John and Sally Osborne Educational Scholarship was established in 2005 by Professor Emeritus Dr. Anne Kilpatrick of the College of Health Professions’ Division of Health and Administrative Policy. This scholarship will recognize deserving students of the College who represent two constituent groups: women and men in transition and minorities.

The John and Sally Osborne Educational Scholarship is named in honor of the parents of Dr. Kilpatrick. John was involved in the Oak Ridge project during WWII, worked for Bowater, a British paper company for over 42 years, and was a violinist and choir director. Sally was a “professional volunteer” in Tennessee, Connecticut and South Carolina, winning recognition everywhere they lived for her work, especially with the elderly and mentally challenged. She was also a talented musician.

Together John and Sally raised four children, who are all college graduates. The two daughters went on to obtain doctorates, and both work in health care and education. The older son is President and CEO of the family business, a 128 year old hardware/industrial supply company in Cocoa, Florida. The younger son retired from Service Merchandise, has been actively involved as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts for over two decades, and is a noted story teller and photographer.

The College of Health Professions has benefitted first hand from the love, reverence for education and the commitment to service represented so demonstratively by this family through the leadership and dedication of Dr. Kilpatrick. After 23 years as an esteemed teacher, mentor and colleague, Dr. Kilpatrick retired from the College but remains connected and involved. Please join us in honoring Dr. Anne Kilpatrick's vast contributions to the College with your gift to The John and Sally Osborne Educational Scholarship. Once fully funded, The John and Sally Osborne Educational Scholarship will exist in perpetuity, providing future generations of students with opportunities that they might otherwise not have.
