Igor - Physician Assistant Student Ambassador

Hey y’all, I'm Igor; yes that really is my name. I was born in Venezuela and moved to Florida when I was three. I’ve had the pleasure of working in multiple capacities within the medical field, including: an emergency room secretary, a hospital Spanish translator, a paramedic, and a registered nurse in several emergency departments and intensive care units.  Additionally, during the past four years, I’ve had the pleasure of working as a flight nurse for a national air medical transportation company. I bet your asking, 'why PA and not NP?'

My first encounter with a Physician Assistant came while serving as a combat medic in the US Army. Capt. Terry Smith, PA-C was my unit’s medical control. Terry became a friend, an educator, and a role model. I remember thinking that PA’s were amazing; and, when it came to medical professions, they are the “jack of all trades.” Over the years, I’ve continued to observe and learn from PA’s; and, my opinion has not waivered. PA’s play a critical role in the medical arena. I honor the opportunity to further my career and enter this realm of medicine. My professional and personal growth has enabled me to pursue this path, to be that “jack of all trades.” I plan to combine my nursing skills with the knowledge gained through PA school to make a difference and improve the life of the patients I will have the privilege of serving. I chose MUSC and the College of Health Professions for multiple reasons. The most important to me were the faculty’s commitment to the success of the class, the curriculum, and the reputation of the program.
