Maggie - Physical Therapy Student Ambassador
Hi! My name is Maggie, and I am currently a 3rd-year Physical Therapy student. I am originally from Richmond, VA but have loved living in South Carolina for the past six years. I graduated from Clemson University (Go TIGERS!) in 2008 with a degree in Health Science and worked as a Certified Health Education Specialist before attending MUSC.
I love being outdoors! I enjoy everything from being on the lake or beach to hiking to playing tennis or learning how to play golf (it’s a work in progress). I also love to read and have an unhealthy obsession with shoes (50+ pairs of shoes is normal, right?).
The potential to assist people in returning to a greater level of functioning as a means to improve their quality of life is what drew me to physical therapy. I love the feeling of success and having the ability to help people experience those feelings of success, whether through accomplishment of an activity they never thought they would be capable of doing again or performing activities of daily living that restore their independence, gets me so pumped to work in physical therapy! After graduation, I hope to focus on burn and wound care and/or pediatrics.
Any applicant unfamiliar with Charleston should know that it is full of big city excitement and small town southern hospitality. Charleston has so much to offer to keep you entertained during time off, including great dining, shopping, culture, beaches, and nightlife, yet you will find it is not overwhelming and everyone here is welcoming!
I think a few things that all applicants should know about the College of Health Professions is that, while a student in the College of Health Professions (CHP), you will be supported, challenged, and encouraged by motivated, knowledgeable faculty. Additionally, CHP has amazing technologically-driven facilities that allow for support, diversified educational routes, and self-paced learning for students.
There were a number of reasons that drew me MUSC to pursue a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. During my time at Clemson, I heard so many positive things about MUSC from friends attending programs here that I decided I had to visit the campus to see how great it was firsthand! After visiting the campus (and Charleston for the first time!), meeting current students and faculty, seeing the amazing facilities, and learning about all of the opportunities MUSC offers to become involved on campus as well as within the community, I knew there was nowhere else I would rather be continuing my education.
