Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies - Laptop Standards

All students beginning the Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) program in 2018 must bring to campus a laptop that meets or exceeds college standards, developed to ensure compatibility with existing infrastructure and policy. As well, PAS students will use the ExamSoft testing software as part of completing course requirements. ExamSoft requires the use of a laptop, as opposed to a tablet. Tablets are not sufficient for complete all work in the PAS program. ExamSoft is a secure testing software that disables blue-tooth connections. Students must have a laptop that is not reliant on blue-tooth connections (ie., blue-tooth enabled mouse, etc.). PAS students may also use a remote proctoring software as part of completing course requirements. To use this software, students must have access to a webcamera for use with laptops.

New students attend a technology orientation and will be assisted with accessing the campus network, email, course materials, software downloads, encryption and mobile device management. You will need a laptop at this time.

Hardware and Software Standards

Almost all required software is available to students at minimal or no charge. Students are highly encouraged to visit the CHP Software webpage.

NoteALL students are required to have a privacy screen during all computer-based exams and quizzes. When not taking an exam, we do not require you to use the privacy screen. These can be purchased for various screen sizes through stores that carry computer accessories or online from Amazon.com. You will need to select one that fits your laptop device.

Students purchasing a new Microsoft Windows computer are encouraged to consider one with a Professional grade operating system and Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip because these laptops include a native encryption application. All modern Mac computers include a native encryption application. Laptop models recommended on this page include those that can be ordered with these capabilities.

Suggested Laptop Models

Below are suggested laptop models for students considering the purchase of a new computer. Students assume all risk and responsibility when purchasing these models.
