Learning Objectives

  • Describe key findings related to the epidemiology of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) including gender influences, age at presentation and diagnosis, and death rates
  • Discuss the Step Care Model of COPD Management and detail pharmacologic treatment recommendations based on the stage of disease.
  • Recognize major benefits and risks of established and newer therapies including bronchodilators, corticosteroids, and selected non-pharmacologic interventions.
  • Develop an evidence-based treatment and monitoring plan for an outpatient suffering from symptoms of COPD.
