The Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) program assesses its own success by the success of its students and alumni. We strive for continual improvement and we are proud to share our successes in achieving our Program Goals.
The program strives to:
1. GOAL: Be fully compliant with all standards established by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA);
OUTCOME: The MUSC PAS program is fully accredited by the ARC-PA and anticipates its next validation review in March 2020.
2. GOAL: Enroll competitive applicants representing the rich diversity of the populations of South Carolina and the nation;
OUTCOME: We are proud of our students and graduates! The MUSC PAS program continues to be highly competitive, attracting a motivated group of superb applicants. The table below shows the mean grade point averages and graduate record exam scores from students joining the program in 2012, 2013, and 2014.

In addition to attracting applicants who are academically highly prepared, we have been fortunate to matriculate diverse groups of students, including students from across the United States. We strive to maintain diverse student cohorts to maximize the opportunities of all students to learn in a supportive and culturally sensitive environment.

3. GOAL: Educate physician assistants with the knowledge, skills and abilities to provide quality health care;
OUTCOME: Student performance in the summative evaluation typically reflects performance on, the Physician Assistant National Certification Examination (PANCE). The graduating class of 2014 had an overall first-pass rate of 94% on the PANCE exam.
The PAS first-time pass rate on the PANCE exam for the past 5 years may be viewed here. PANCE pass rates for the graduating classes of 2010-2014 ranged from 93-97% which was higher than the national average for 4 of the 5 years.
4. GOAL: Graduate students who are highly satisfied with the quality of their education, the state of their professional development, and their overall capability to function as a physician assistant.
OUTCOME: We assess satisfaction of our graduates at the time of graduation with an exit survey, and one year after graduation with a graduation survey. Scores are on a Likert scale with 1 being the lowest and 4 the highest.

The PAS faculty and staff strive to improve the quality and outcomes of our educational program, systematically addressing each goal and outcome, with the ultimate goal of providing the best educational experience possible to our students.
