Chris - Cardiovascular Perfusion Student Ambassador

Hello. My name is Chris and I am originally from Ware Shoals, SC. I attended Clemson University (Go Tigers!) where I received my BS in Biological Sciences. I love sports and I try to be outside as much as I can.

The College of Health Professions has great facilities and even better instructors. The campus itself is right in the middle of downtown, so the scenery is amazing and there is always something to do within walking distance when you have a break in between classes. The other great thing about MUSC is that it is in close proximity to several hospitals (MUSC, Veterans, Trident, Roper St. Francis), so if you’re program requires rotations there are options locally.

Charleston is just an amazing city in general. There are many amazing restaurants and I doubt you could dine in all them before graduating from MUSC. There are a ton of social/recreational activities and if you’re a fan of the beach it is only fifteen minutes away from downtown. All of that combined with the historical and natural beauty of the city makes Charleston a great city to live in.

I chose MUSC because it is a premier medical education university that has national respect. I choose my particular program, cardiovascular perfusion, because I wanted to work in cardiac surgery and I love a high adrenaline environment. The CVP program at MUSC is known nationally and has the advantage of a state of the art simulation lab that allows us to train and prepare before entering the operating room. After graduating from my program I intend on finding a job in a high volume cardiac unit and possibly pursuing my interest in different fields of research.
