Laura - Occupational Therapy Student Ambassador
Hi! I'm Laura Stewart and I am from Charlotte, NC. I graduated from Appalachian State University where I majored in Psychology.
I really enjoy being outside, hiking, water skiing in the summer and snowboarding in the winter. My freshman year at Appalachian State University, I took a beginning snowboarding class and loved it! I still classify myself as a beginner, but I really enjoy it. My whole family water skies so I was roped into it at a young age.
I am so proud to be a part of the College of Health Professions! MUSC is very focused on interprofessional education and the College of Health Professions has wonderful programming to reinforce this principle. All of the professors are dedicated to the success of their students and create a positive learning environment. I appreciate the perspective of students outside of my program in class discussions and projects.
I absolutely love living in Charleston! I have lived in Charlotte, NC for most of my life and visited the area many times before moving here to attend MUSC. Now, I have to opportunity to live in a place where so many people come to vacation. It is a wonderful city that has so much to offer, even on a student budget. I really enjoy visiting the beach, running, shopping, site seeing, and trying out the food Charleston is famous for. I value balance between schoolwork and personal time and Charleston has so much to offer.
Occupational Therapy is a health care service that aims to facilitate a person’s full participation in everyday life. I initially learned about OT through a family experience; after more exposure I decided on OT for my career. When searching for graduate schools, I wanted to find a school with a curriculum focused on both clinical and classroom experience. The state-of-the-art facilities here provide students with educational technologies to enhance learning. My experience thus far has confirmed that MUSC is the perfect place for me to earn my graduate degree. The location is a plus, too!
