Michelle - Physical Therapy Student Ambassador
Hey! My name is Michelle and I'm from Columbia, SC. I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a major in Exercise Science. A fun fact about me is that I’ve played the flute for 11 years and participated in marching band and symphonic winds ensemble throughout college!
Applicants should know that the College of Health Professions’ professors are considered among the top in their various professions and that they are truly committed to their students. In addition, applicants should know that MUSC places a big emphasis on Interprofessional Development - there are a lot of opportunities to interact with students studying different professions within the College of Health Professions and throughout MUSC.
I think out-of-state students should know that, despite what you may have heard, South Carolina really does get all four seasons – it’s just that we get summer temperatures about 95% of the time and the rest of the different seasons’ temperatures kind of fill in what’s left over.
I chose MUSC because the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program was one of the strongest in the country and had an extremely high passing rate on the Physical Therapy National Board Exam. Also, it was important to me that MUSC placed value on diversity, as well as provided a lot of clinical (hands-on) experience throughout the entire curriculum.
There is always something to get involved in at MUSC! The Student Government Association hosts plenty of relaxing and fun events throughout the year (an awesome Back to School Party, Fiesta Latina, Halloween Party, Oyster Roast, etc.) as well as provides ample opportunities to serve in the community through events like The Sugar Free Fall Festival, student blood drives, and the MUSC Gives Back program!
