Shannon - Physical Therapy Student Ambassador

My name Shannon M. I'm from Birmingham, Alabama and attended Furman University as a Spanish major. I absolutely love to travel! I had the opportunity to study abroad in Mexico and Spain during my time at Furman, and I loved exploring new cultures and meeting people from all over the world. I also am learning/teaching myself how to play guitar, which always serves as a great break from schoolwork.
I’m so blessed to be attending physical therapy school at MUSC; my experience here has far exceeded my expectations. Everyone I meet at MUSC is so friendly and helpful, and I’ve had a wonderful time getting to know my professors and classmates. The curriculum is challenging but manageable, and I’ve learned so much these past few months. I have no doubt that I am receiving the best education possible, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else right now.
I have loved living in Charleston! It is such a fun city, with so many places to explore and things to do. Charleston seems to have everything, including easy access to the beach, great restaurants, an upbeat and cool downtown, lots of historical sites, and good shopping. Charleston seems to have something for just about anyone, and I doubt that many people are ever bored while living in this city.
My decision to come to MUSC was not an easy one, but in retrospect, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I applied to and visited a lot of physical therapy schools, and when the application process was over, I had a few good schools to choose from. MUSC, however, definitely stood out to me from the other schools. I really liked all the people I met at MUSC. Everyone was very friendly and informative, and I felt very comfortable interacting with other students and the faculty. Also, the facilities were great, and the physical therapy curriculum really impressed me. I really felt like I would be learning from some of the most knowledgeable people in the field, and so far, I have not been disappointed. M0y professors are wonderful! Furthermore, I liked the idea of living in Charleston for the next few years, and when everything added up, I was excited to attend MUSC for Physical Therapy School.
It’s hard to say exactly what I would like to do, but so far I have enjoyed geriatrics and the neuromuscular component of the profession. I’ve loved pursuing physical therapy, and I look forward to learning even more about the profession!
I'd love to talk to you more about MUSC and the Physical Therapy program. Just email me at chpambassador@musc.edu!
