Sally - Cardiovascular Perfusion Student Ambassador

Hi, I’m Sally!  I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA (I am a huge Steelers fan, I bleed black and gold!) and spent my summers on Cape Hatteras, NC.  I lived in Charlotte, NC for 7 years where I attended UNC Charlotte (majoring in Biology and Psychology) before moving to Charleston to attend the CVP program here at MUSC.  I couldn’t have picked a better city than Charleston for school.  Where I live on James Island I’m about 4 miles from the beautiful Folly Beach and 4 miles from downtown and campus.  I truly believe that this city has something for every kind of personality, I have never heard a bad word spoken about it, and it’s a great place to live. 

I had been working in a restaurant in Charlotte, NC trying to figure out what to go to school for when a guy sat down at the bar and told me that he was a Cardiovascular Perfusionist.  I replied, “huh?” like most people do when they hear it for the first time.  He explained the profession and told me that MUSC had a great program and I should look into it.  From that point on, I was hooked.  I have been in love with Charleston for many years and was so excited to be able to move here and be a part of the College of Health Professions.  

This career promises to be something different everyday, a new experience with every surgery.  I cannot wait to start this profession. I know I will honestly never have another boring day at work again!
