The purpose of Transitioning and Integrating Graduate Education in Rural Settings (TIGERS) is to strengthen the Physician Assistant (PA) Program at the Medical University of South Carolina by: Developing a didactic-to-clinical transitional component by placing students in rural settings for an inter-professional experience that promotes understanding of health care systems; Integrating simulation technology into the didactic and clinical curriculum to enhance patient care; Assimilating an oral health component in the PA curriculum to increase knowledge and skill for rural practice; Enriching the existing academic fellowship program to support future growth for upcoming faculty members, thereby fortifying the overall quality of graduate education in the field.
