1.   PI Name:  James S. Krause, PhD                                    08/01/2007-07/31/2008

Study Title: Exploration of Allostatic Load after Spinal Cord Injury

The purpose of this Pilot Research is to study a series of biomarkers associated with the theoretical concept of AL in a sample of subjects with SCI of varying severity and duration in order to determine the feasibility of studying traditional and modified biomarkers among participants with SCI and to generate preliminary data on the relationship of AL indicators with injury severity and years lived since SCI. The long-term endpoint of this research initiative is to develop and refine a protocol to assess these biomarkers in a population with SCI that will be utilized in an NIH application to study the relationship of AL, systemic inflammation, and body composition with outcomes after SCI.
