MUSC Office of CME Exhibits at SC Diabetes Day 2013

Tina Kehoe (l) from the MUSC Office of CME exhibited the Measure Your Health display at the annual Diabetes Awareness Day at the South Carolina Statehouse on March 13, 2013, which was hosted by the Diabetes Initiative of South Carolina (DSC), represented by Julie Benke-Bennett (r). DSC provided free diabetes screening to the public which included a blood glucose test and waist circumference measurement per the SC Guidelines on Diabetes Care. Measure Your Health is an OCME initiative to raise the public's awareness of the importance of measuring waist circumference for prevention of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Academic Detailing and PI-CME: What a Marriage!

Odessa Ussery, MEd, CCMEP, Director of the MUSC Office of Continuing Medical Education, and Sarah Ball, PharmD (not pictured), South Carolina College of Pharmacy, presented a poster at the national ACEHP annual conference in San Francisco, California on January 30 - February 1, 2013.

Odessa also received the Distinguished Member Award for her valuable service and contributions to the Alliance.



The Impact of Practice-Based Assessments and Training

Tina Kehoe, MAEd, CCMEP, from the MUSC Office of Continuing Medical Education (right) and Victoria Chien, PhD, MBA from the USC Office of Continuous Professional Development and Strategic Affairs gave an oral presentation at the national ACEHP annual conference in San Francisco, California on January 31, 2013. Their presentation highlighted educational strategies piloted in a joint MUSC/USC education research project on improving obesity care in South Carolina.

Expanding the Educational Value of Needs Assessments to Improve Obesity Health Care
Victoria Chien, PhD from the USC Office of Continuous Professional Development and Strategic Affairs (OCPDSA), in conjunction with the MUSC Office of Continuing Medical Education (OCME), presented the need assessment results from our joint project, the South Carolina Initiative for Quality Overweight/Obese Care, as a poster at the international CME Congress in Toronto on May 30-31, 2012.  Co-presenters include Morris Blachman, PhD, USC OCPDSA, Robert Malcolm, MD, MUSC Office of CME, and Tina Kehoe, MAEd, CCMEP, MUSC Office of CME. The MUSC Office of CME exhibited its Measure Your Health display at the annual Diabetes Day at the South Carolina Statehouse on March 21, 2012, which was hosted by the Diabetes Initiative of South Carolina (DSC), which also offered free diabetes screening to the public.
