James  W. Curran, MD,  MPH,  is Dean  and  Professor of Epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public  Health  of Emory  University. He is an internationally recognized authority on  HIV/AIDS prevention. He has served as assistant surgeon general in the  U.S. Public  Health Service and  director of the

Division  of HIV/AIDS Prevention at the  U.S. Centers for  Disease Control and  Prevention (CDC). While  at the  CDC, Dr. Curran directed the  CDC Task  Force that  conducted the  initial investigations on  HIV /AIDS and  held numerous leadership positions at the  CDC before joining  Emory  in 1995. He currently is the  principal  investigator of Emory's  National Institutes of Health-funded Center for AIDS  Research.
