MUSC President Search Update
Earlier this week, the names of three finalists invited to make on-campus visits for the position of MUSC President were released. Those candidates are Dr. David Cole (MUSC), Dr. Joanne Conroy (AAMC) and Dr. Ora Pescovitz (Univ. of Michigan). Interviews for these individuals have been taking place this week. The MUSC Board of Trustees will make the final decision regarding appointment to the Presidency.
Faculty Bridge Funding Program
A primary goal of the College of Medicine is to support and strengthen research capabilities of our faculty. One mechanism utilized to facilitate this goal is our Bridge Funding Program. The purpose of this program is to support investigators with established clinical or basic research programs during periods when a competitive renewal was not funded. Program details and the application format are available at http://www.musc.edu/com/research/bridgefunding.htm. The application deadline for the current cycle is April 15. COM Career Development and Mentoring Survey
The MUSC Center for Advancement, Recruitment and Retention of Women in Science (ARROWS) and the COM Associate Deans for Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development have prepared a brief survey to gather data about our college’s career development and departmental faculty mentoring plans. The survey will be sent through REDCap and all faculty are asked to complete this confidential survey by April 25. Thank you for your cooperation. Epic Training - Time to Start Registering for Classes
We are now 80 days from our Epic Enterprise "Go-Live", and it is important that we all take steps to undergo necessary training and prepare for go-live on July 1. Please register for training classes as they will fill up quickly. Managers are responsible for ensuring their employees are registered for required training prior to go-live on July 1; registration will be tracked very closely by clinical leadership. Annual Conflict of Interest Disclosures Due April 30
It is time for all employees to complete the mandatory annual Conflict of Interest Disclosure. A secure program allowing you to confidentially transmit information is used for the online disclosure and can be found at http://academicdepartments.musc.edu/coi. The deadline for completion of this form is April 30. Questions and comments regarding the COI disclosure should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Faculty Affairs Roundtables
The College of Medicine Faculty Affairs Team invites faculty to attend the next sessions in the series of Faculty Affairs Roundtables. Drs. Dan Smith and Gary Gilkeson will be presenting on the topic of “Negotiating With Your Chair” on April 17 at 12:00 p.m. in 601EE Clinical Sciences Building and 4:00 p.m. in 601DD Clinical Sciences Building. Applications being accepted for John R. Raymond Mentoring Fellowship
Applications are being accepted for the John Raymond Mentoring Fellowship, which is sponsored by the Women Scholars Initiative and Office of the Provost. The fellowship provides some financial support for a full-time female faculty member to initiate a relationship with a mentor affiliated with an outside institution. COM Faculty Excellence Award Ceremony
All members of the College are invited to attend the COM Faculty Excellence Award Ceremony. It is scheduled for April 24, 12:00 p.m. in the Basic Science Building Auditorium, with a reception to follow in the Education Library Lobby. Come join us as we celebrate those faculty nominated by our students for their commitment and enthusiasm.

Nominations are being accepted for the 2014 MUSC Foundation Distinguished Faculty Service Award and the 2014 MUSC Foundation Outstanding Clinician Awards. Nominations Being Accepted for the Peggy Schachte Research Mentor Award
Nominations are being accepted for the Peggy Schachte Research Mentor Award. This award is intended to recognize individuals at MUSC who mentor faculty in obtaining research support from private and public organizations or government agencies. As a reminder, we have electronic discussion platforms focusing on various aspects of our mission. These forums are intended to serve several purposes. First, they are another way for my office to share important information with faculty, staff, and students. Second, they are meant to encourage discussion about issues within the college and to empower everyone within the college to voice their opinions. These “discussion forums” are intended to be not only channels for messages to be sent out, but channels for YOUR ideas, comments and questions to be heard by college leadership.
