COLLEGE OF MEDICINE Newsroom

Message from the Dean

Etta D. Pisano, M.D.

Vice President for Medical Affairs
Dean, College of Medicine

Dear Colleagues:

Dr. Martha Clare Morris, candidate for the position of Founding Chair, Department of Public Health Sciences, will be giving a seminar next Tuesday, June 19, 4:00 p.m., in 100 Basic Science Building on the topic of “Dietary Factors to Maintain a Healthy Brain”.  Dr. Morris is currently Professor of Internal Medicine, Pharmacology, and Preventive Medicine; Director of the Section of Nutrition and Nutritional Epidemiology in the Division of Digestive Diseases; Assistant Provost of Community Relations; and Co-Director of the Rush Translational Science Consortium at Rush University Medical Center.  All members of the college are invited to attend her seminar.

Earlier this month, MUSC was recognized by the Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit devoted to patient safety, with a grade of “A” in patient safety.  We were the only hospital in the Charleston area to receive this grade, and one of only 14 hospitals in South Carolina, to receive an “A” from this organization.  Congratulations to all members of our clinical enterprise for your efforts in patient safety, and to Pat Cawley and his team for their leadership in this area – it is because of your hard work that we were able to achieve this recognition.

It has been a month since we began the full implementation of the Epic electronic medical record in our MUSC ambulatory clinics.  I’d like to take this opportunity to express my continued appreciation to all of the clinics who have worked so hard to implement Epic and to the Epic support staff who have continued to work to resolve issues as quickly as possible – all of your efforts are greatly appreciated.

I’d like to remind all faculty and staff in the College of Medicine and MUSC Physicians who have not already done so to please complete this year’s employee satisfaction survey – the survey deadline is June 19.  This survey is a great opportunity to share your perceptions across a variety of key areas that affect your satisfaction, and will help us work to improve our workplace.  All survey data will be kept on a Morehead Associates server and individual survey responses will not be accessible by anyone at MUSC or MUSC Physicians.  If you have any questions or concerns about the survey process, please contact Frances Glanville (College of Medicine) or Andrea Swartz (MUSC Physicians) for assistance.

As always, I look forward to hearing from you via email or when I attend your departmental meetings.

With warm regards,

Etta
