To support our mission and our vision to become a nationally recognized model of excellence for U.S. medical schools, the Group for Diversity Affairs works to enhance diversity among our students, residents, and faculty by implementing and maintaining programs designed to support underrepresented in medicine individuals*.
Pipeline programs engages under-represented male and female students in middle, high school, and undergraduate school in a mentoring process (academic and professional) that prepares them for a future career in medicine.
Our current students, minority and majority alike, promote a collegial, collaborative environment where all students feel welcome.
The efforts of the Graduate Medical Education (GME) office, residency training directors, and faculty have directly impacted our recruitment of underrepresented minorities.
The number of underrepresented in medicine (URM) faculty members has dramatically increased since the College of Medicine launched its diversity plan in 2002.
