Vice President for Medical Affairs
Dean, College of Medicine

Dear Colleagues:

Student Satisfaction Survey Results

We have received the results of the annual Student Satisfaction Survey, which is administered by Education and Student Life (ESL), and I wanted to share some of the survey data with you.  I am pleased to report that 93% of our College of Medicine students believe they made the right choice in selecting MUSC for their training and would recommend MUSC to prospective students, and 94% of our students reported that they have received a high quality education at MUSC.  The results were similarly complementary of ESL, with 95% of our students indicating that they are pleased with the services received from ESL and that the programs provided by ESL promote effective stress management, a balanced lifestyle, and overall well-being.

I’d like to thank all members of the College and of ESL who have contributed to these excellent results.  While there are certainly improvements that can be made, we are pleased to know that our students believe they are being well-served.

Interprofessional Education Teaching Series

I’d like to remind our faculty that MUSC’s Creating Collaborative Care (C3) program will be offering a new faculty development initiative in interprofessional education (IPE) this fall.  This new series is a short course designed to help faculty create, improve or deliver IPE within their college or unit.  The registration deadline is August 17, 2012.  Interested faculty can learn more about this new initiative at

Faculty Breakfast Meetings

In order to allow for more robust conversations around central missions of the college, I have decided to target specific areas of focus – clinical, research, education, administration - for these faculty breakfast meetings.  Faculty who are interested in attending should contact Beverly Carson,, and indicate which area of focus is of greatest interest to them.  These meetings will begin on September 6 and will typically be held on Thursday mornings at 7:30 a.m.

State of the College Address

As a reminder, my State of the College address will be held on Monday, September 10, at 4:00 p.m., in 110 Drug Discovery Building.  This will be an opportunity to discuss our accomplishments over the past year and our plans for the future, and to address any questions related to the implementation of the university-wide funds flow model.  I hope many of you will plan to attend and I look forward to hearing your input and feedback.

As always ….

I look forward to hearing from you - either in person or via email (  Together let’s keep building the nation’s finest academic medical center.
