State of the College Address
As a reminder, my State of the College address will be held on Monday, September 10, at 4:00 p.m., in 110 Drug Discovery Building. This will be an opportunity to discuss our accomplishments over the past year and our plans for the future, and to address questions on any topic. Initially, I had planned to give an additional presentation regarding the university-wide funds flow model and College of Medicine finances immediately following the State of the College address. In order to allow more time for discussion and feedback, I have decided to do this second presentation at a separate time. All those interested in hearing about the university-wide funds flow model and College of Medicine finances are invited to attend a presentation on Wednesday, September 19, 4:00 p.m., in 100 Basic Science Building. I hope many of you will plan to attend both of these sessions, and I look forward to hearing your input and feedback.

Seminar by Dr. Jeannette South-Paul
The College of Medicine Diversity Committee, Academy of Medical Educators, and Faculty Affairs are pleased to present a seminar by Dr. Jeannette South-Paul on September 24, 4:00-5:00 p.m., in the Drug Discovery Building Auditorium. Dr. South-Paul is the Andrew W. Mathieson Professor and Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. The topic of her seminar will be “The Future of Health Disparities in the Age of Healthcare Reform”. A reception will follow in the lobby of the Drug Discovery Building, and CME credit will be available. All members of the College are invited to attend.
Faculty Breakfast Meetings
In order to allow for more robust conversations around central missions of the college, I have decided to target specific areas of focus – clinical, research, education, administration - for these faculty breakfast meetings. Faculty who are interested in attending should contact Beverly Carson, email@example.com, and indicate which area of focus is of greatest interest to them. These meetings will typically be held on Thursday mornings at 7:30 a.m. The first of these meetings took place yesterday morning, and I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to hear directly from those faculty members in attendance. I hope all faculty who would like to participate in these discussions will sign up for a future breakfast meeting.
As always ….
Let’s work together to meet our strategic planning goal – to be in the Top 25 among academic medical centers for reputation, quality, service, efficiency and financial performance by 2015. I look forward to hearing from you - either in person or via email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
