Vice President for Medical Affairs
Dean, College of Medicine

Dear Colleagues:

This has been a terrific week for MUSC’s clinical enterprise.

U.S. News & World Report Rankings – MUSC is the State’s #1 Hospital

Earlier this week, U.S. News & World Report released their “best hospital” rankings and I am pleased to report that MUSC performed extremely well again this year.  MUSC ranked 1st in South Carolina and 1st for the Charleston-North Charleston-Summerville metro area, and was nationally ranked in the top 50 for Ear, Nose & Throat, Nephrology, Cardiology & Heart Surgery, and Gastroenterology.  Nine other programs were recognized as “high-performing” – Cancer, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Geriatrics, Gynecology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Pulmonology, Rheumatology, and Urology.  Full scores and rankings for MUSC can be found at

This level of national recognition and achievement would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of our talented clinicians, administrators, and staff.  I’d like to extend my congratulations and thanks to all those who have contributed to this wonderful accomplishment.

Interprofessional Education Teaching Series

MUSC’s Creating Collaborative Care (C3) program will be offering a new faculty development initiative in interprofessional education (IPE) this fall.  This new series is a short course designed to help faculty create, improve or deliver IPE within their college or unit.  Interested faculty can learn more about this initiative at  The registration deadline is August 17, 2012.

College of Medicine Website

The College of Medicine website – - has undergone a transformation this week to align with the new website design being implemented across the MUSC enterprise.  I am very appreciative of all those who worked on this initiative.  It is my hope that our internal and external users will find the new design to be more streamlined and user-friendly.

Faculty Breakfast Meetings

As a reminder, faculty who are interested in attending a breakfast meeting with me after the start of the academic year should contact Beverly Carson,, to get on the schedule.  These breakfast meetings are open to all faculty in the college who would like to meet with me and discuss whatever topics are on their mind.  These meetings will begin on September 6 and will typically be held on Thursday mornings at 7:30 a.m.

As always ….

I look forward to hearing from you - either in person or via email (  Together let’s keep building the nation’s finest academic medical center.
