Faculty Convocation – Award Winners
The Faculty Convocation was held earlier this week. Dr. Perry Halushka, Professor of Medicine and Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, was the keynote speaker and gave a wonderful talk on the role and importance of entrepreneurialism.
Several College of Medicine faculty were recognized for their excellence. Dr. Joe Blumer (Cell and Molecular Pharmacology) was presented with a Developing Scholar Award. Dr. Judy Dubno (Otolaryngology) received the Peggy Schachte Research Mentor Award. Three members of the college received the Outstanding Clinician Award – Dr. Andrew Atz (Pediatrics), Dr. Joshua Smith (Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine), and Dr. Dannah Wray (Pediatrics and Internal Medicine). Two members of our faculty were honored with Distinguished Faculty Service Awards – Dr. Rick Silver (Medicine) and Dr. Robert Stuart (Medicine).
We are very proud of each of these individuals and congratulate them all on the well-deserved recognition of their accomplishments.

Faculty Breakfast Meetings
In order to allow for more robust conversations around central missions of the college, I have decided to target specific areas of focus – clinical, research, education, administration - for these faculty breakfast meetings. Faculty who are interested in attending should contact Beverly Carson, email@example.com, and indicate which area of focus is of greatest interest to them. These meetings will begin on September 6 and will typically be held on Thursday mornings at 7:30 a.m.
As always ….
Let’s work together to meet our strategic planning goal – to be in the Top 25 among academic medical centers for reputation, quality, service, efficiency and financial performance by 2015. I look forward to hearing from you - either in person or via email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
