26th Annual Charity Ball Recipients:
Crisis Ministries ~ provides food, shelter and hope to end homelessness and hunger one person at a time, one family at a time. Crisis Ministries includes a family center, men’s shelter, soup kitchen and food rescue program, health clinic, chaplaincy program, and social programs designed to help clients develop skills necessary to be successful outside of the clinic. Proceeds from the Silent Auction with help fund the Homeless Health Clinic, which meets the needs of Charleston’s homeless population by providing care for acute illnesses and chronic conditions. (***Crisis Ministries has been a perpetual recipient since the launch of Charity Ball***)
Operation Home ~ makes emergency home repairs that provide safe shelter, and handicapped accessibility, for economically disadvantaged and physically disabled children, elderly, and in-firmed residents of Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties. Operation Home's most frequent request for help is with wheelchair ramps and handicapped-accessibility. Proceeds from the Silent Auction will help purchase materials and pay a contractor to supervise the volunteers, wheelchair-ramp builders for our clients.
The Charleston Area Children's Garden Project (CACGP) ~ involves children and caring adults in the creation and operation of teaching gardens that help reduce the incidence of childhood hunger, obesity, and diabetes; and empowers children with life skills that enable them to lead productive and purposeful lives. The CACGP guides and assists five Title 1 schools per year in the development of edible gardens as a performance & standards based school & community support, consisting of several hundred youth grades two through six. Proceeds from the Silent Auction will help support CACGP's overarching goal that is through education and practice, participating youngsters will know they are responsible and accountable for their health and wellness throughout a life-span.
Lowcountry Pregnancy Center ~ exists to provide life affirming reproductive health and family services. Over the past few years, we noticed the large number of young men who were coming in to our offices with their girlfriends, and we realized that we weren't providing any services for the fathers who are a critical component to these families. Our plan is to reach out to low income young fathers in order to equip them for fatherhood. The goal is to encourage them to attend prenatal appointments, support and care for the mothers of their babies and also attend classes on caring for the medical, physical and emotional needs of their infants. Proceeds from the Silent Auction will help to incentivize class attendance for the new fathers. Gas cards and packs of diapers will be rewarded to those men who complete the "Doctor Dad" and "24/7" programs offered within one year.
Junior Girls Day Out Community Project ~ was established as a means of providing positive outlets for young girls, helping them become well-rounded individuals, and inspiring them to reach their goals in life. All of our program activities, meals and transportation are absolutely free for all girls, ages 7-12, who reside throughout the tri-county and throughout the State of South Carolina. Through the "Girls Champion Fitness Club", girls are inspired to practice living healthy lifestyles by running, exercising, and eating nutritional meals. Proceeds from the Silent Auction will help purchase fitness and nutrition program required components such as, fitness training and nutrition equipment, running shoes, and program supplies.
MUSC Student Initiatives
CARES Clinic ~ provides healthcare to uninsured in the greater Charleston metropolitan area.
Crisis Ministries Wednesday Night Clinic ~ serves the residents at Crisis Ministries and addresses their health care needs.
