The College of Medicine and UMA are committed to pursuing excellence in patient care, education, and research.  To help us attain the highest degree of excellence, we engaged the Studer Group, an organization known for helping organizations to achieve results.  In doing so we joined MUHA on the MUSC Excellence journey.

The foundation of our organizational goal structure is the Five Pillars of Excellence.  The Pillars help us to understand both our goals and our current position with respect to those goals at the individual, departmental, entity, and organizational levels.  The pillars also provide a framework for objective evaluation of performance.

Through this goal-setting and measurement process, the Five Pillars keep the organization balanced in its short and long-term objectives.  The Nine Principles of service and operational excellence provide a “roadmap” of behaviors and systems that support achieving goals under each Pillar.
