Alexandria May ’18 fashioned a matching set of bookends for her pharmacy education. She interviewed for admission with – and then exited with letters of recommendation from – the same two faculty members (Kristy Brittain and Chris Wisniewski).
The Greenwood, S.C. native is joining the Grady Health System in Atlanta as a PGY1 resident, where she will function independently as the pharmacist on an interprofessional team of health care providers. Her training will include month-long experiences in various acute care and ambulatory care settings as well as pharmacy practice management. Other responsibilities include earning a teaching certificate through Mercer University College of Pharmacy, conducting a research project with a manuscript suitable for publication, and participating in the 24 hour in-house on-call program.
She chose this residency after building a rich background of pharmacy experience, having worked as a pharmacy intern at both MUSC Outpatient Pharmacies and Rite Aid Pharmacy throughout pharmacy school and even completing one rotation at the Naval Hospital in Sicily!
Pre-Pharmacy: University of South Carolina Honors College
Career Expectations: She plans to pursue PGY2 residency in a specialty of interest. Her current interests include infectious diseases, psychiatry and ambulatory care. “I look forward to gaining more experience in my interest areas during residency training to learn what setting is the best fit for me!”
Why MUSC?: “I was so impressed with how dedicated the faculty at MUSC was to the success of their pharmacy students, and I loved the teaching environment and multi-disciplinary approach to patient care at MUSC. Plus, who wouldn’t want to live in this beautiful city?”
