Standard Benefits:

Salary: All residents accepted to the Postdoctoral Pediatric Dentistry program qualify for Medical University house-staff salary at the appropriate post-graduate year classification. Prior postgraduate dental training (e.g. AEGD, GPR) is credited to post-graduate (PGY) year status.

In the second year, the residents traditionally split a "Chief Resident" bonus of in addition to the listed PGY salary.

Tuition is waived. All necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are provided by the program with the exception of certain resource textbooks. MUSC sponsored continuing education courses may be attended free of charge. Funding may be made available to attend certain professional meetings and/or associated continuing education programs.

Annual Leave (Vacation): All full-time residents receive 15 days of compensated annual leave per year. Annual leave must be scheduled in advance and cannot accrue from one year to the next. Vacation time is defined as time for personal recreation or business, i.e., non-professionally related activities. • Requests for vacation must be in writing and channeled through the Chief Resident and the Director of the Postgraduate Program.
  • The first resident to apply for leave gets priority.

Sick Leave: All full-time residents receive 15 days of sick leave per year. Sick leave can be used for personal illness, disability or injury and for medical, dental or optical appointments. Sick leave cannot accrue from one year to the next.

Maternity/Paternity Leave: A combination of sick and annual leave can be used for maternity / paternity leave for a total of six weeks annually. Leave time beyond the six weeks must be approved by the department chairman.

Insurance:

  • Health insurance is provided to the resident for a monthly premium. There are four plans from which to choose . Family members can be covered under any one of the four plans for an additional charge.
  • Dental insurance is provided for the resident at no cost. Family members can be covered for an additional charge.
  • Life and disability insurance are provided at no cost to the resident. The resident may increase coverage for an additional charge.
