Dr. Bell is a tenured Professor of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Bell received his DDS (1973) and Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry (1978) from Louisiana State University and a Certificate in Orthodontics from the Medical College of Georgia in 1987. He served as Chair of the combined Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics at MUSC from 1990 to 2003. He currently serves as Director of the Orthodontics Postgraduate Program.
Professional honors include election to the C. Edmund Kell's Dental Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society, and Pierre Fauchard Academy. He is an elected Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Fellow of the American College of Dentists, Diplomate, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and Diplomate, American Board of Orthodontics.
Professional activities include serving as a Director of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (1998 - 2003) and President of the ABPD in 2003, President of the College of Diplomates, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, President of the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry (2001), co-editor of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Audiotape Continuing Education Series, Practical Reviews in Pediatric Dentistry (1990 - 2004) and Assistant Editor, Journal of the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Bell has presented lectures and C.E. courses to state, national and international audiences with over 250 professional presentations, authored / co-authored 68 original articles and research abstracts in referenced journals as well as authoring 20 teaching manuals for professional publication.
In addition to his academic / professional educational activities, Dr. Bell maintains a private practice in orthodontics with an emphasis toward children and adolescents. He is also an orthodontic provider to the Craniofacial Anomalies Team of MUSC Children's Hospital.
